**Title:** Reddit CQS: How to Check and Improve Your Contributor Quality Score

# How to Check and Improve Your Reddit Contributor Quality Score (CQS)

CQS stands for Contributor Quality Score. It is a hidden, site-wide rating Reddit gives an account based on how trustworthy or spam-like it appears. Subreddits can use this score to filter posts and comments. The five tiers are **Lowest, Low, Moderate, High, and Highest**. Lowest is the bad end; Highest is the best.

A low tier can cause posts to be filtered as soon as they are submitted. Comments may be held, removed, or collapsed. Reddit may also limit chats, messages, and invitations while it decides whether an account can be trusted.

CQS is not karma. Karma is a public record of votes received. CQS is a separate trust rating. An old account with thousands of karma can still have a Low or Lowest CQS score.

## How Reddit CQS works

Karma and account-age rules are easy for spammers to work around. CQS gives Reddit and moderators a wider view of an account.

Reddit does not publish the formula or the weight of each signal. It does confirm that CQS looks at broad areas such as account history, network and location signals, and steps taken to secure the account. Everything more exact comes from patterns seen across real accounts, not a public formula.

### The five CQS tiers

Reddit’s official information names the five tiers, but it does not clearly explain which direction is good. In practice, Lowest is the most restricted tier and Highest is the strongest.

| Tier | What usually happens | Accounts often seen here |
|---|---|---|
| **Lowest** | Posts and comments are often caught by reputation filters. | Brand-new, unverified, unstable, or poorly received accounts. |
| **Low** | Frequent filtering or manual review in stricter communities. | New accounts and accounts with weak or mixed history. |
| **Moderate** | Passes many normal CQS limits, though other rules still apply. | Accounts building a steady, clean activity record. |
| **High** | Rarely filtered for CQS alone. | Established accounts with secure setups and healthy activity. |
| **Highest** | Least likely to face CQS-based filtering. | Long-running accounts with strong, clean histories. |

These are common outcomes, not fixed rules. Each subreddit can choose its own limits and apply other filters.

### Where new accounts begin

A new account often starts at Low or Lowest because Reddit has little history to judge. That is a starting point, not proof that the account has been punished.

### Where CQS is used

Each account has one current CQS tier across Reddit, but communities can treat that tier in different ways.

A subreddit may use AutoModerator to hold or remove activity below its chosen level. Reddit’s own reputation filter can also catch activity. A message saying **“Removed by Reddit’s filters”** may point to a reputation or spam filter, though it does not prove that CQS was the only cause.

Larger communities are more likely to use strong filters, but they do not all require the same tier. Reddit also uses wider trust checks for chats, invitations, and some messages from accounts it does not yet consider established.

### CQS can change

CQS is recalculated and can move up or down. The result you see is a snapshot, not a permanent label. Checking again after a day may show movement, but one action will not always cause an instant change.

## How to check your Reddit CQS

The most useful check comes from a Reddit community set up to read the tier attached to the logged-in account.

1. Log in to the Reddit account you want to check.
2. Open **r/WhatIsMyCQS**.
3. Read its current rules.
4. Create a new post using the trigger wording required by those rules.
5. Submit the post.
6. Read the AutoModerator reply, which should name your current tier.

The answer normally arrives quickly, but the required wording can change. Follow the current subreddit instructions rather than copying an old phrase from another guide.

**Button: Check My CQS on Reddit**

### Where the result appears

In **r/WhatIsMyCQS**, the result appears as an AutoModerator comment below your post.

The older **r/cqs** process may send the result through a private message. This is why some public posts there seem to have no answer.

If nothing arrives, check your Reddit messages, confirm that you used the required wording, wait a little, and try again.

### Can you see CQS in your profile?

No. Reddit does not show CQS in profile settings or on a normal account page. The subreddit check reads the account’s real tier through its community setup. Checking does not lower the score or count as a penalty.

### What about third-party CQS checkers?

A website that asks only for a username cannot directly read Reddit’s private CQS value. It can estimate account quality from public activity, age, and karma, but that estimate is not the account’s real tier. The Reddit response is the meaningful result.

### Checking more than one account

You cannot inspect another user’s private CQS tier. There is no public API or normal bot access that reveals it. Each account must be logged in and checked separately.

If you manage several accounts, keep a simple record with the account name, date, tier, and recent changes. Check again after a meaningful change in activity, security, or network setup.

## Is CQS actually blocking you?

A failed post does not always mean low CQS. Reddit has several kinds of filters, and the right fix depends on which one stopped you.

| What you see | What it probably means | How to confirm it |
|---|---|---|
| A removal mentions CQS, account quality, or reputation. | A CQS or reputation rule probably caught the account. | Read the bot message or ask the moderators politely. |
| A rule mentions minimum karma or account age. | The account does not meet that community’s public limits. | Check the subreddit rules and removal message. |
| The removal names a content or posting rule. | The post broke a community rule, regardless of CQS. | Compare the content with the rule named in the message. |
| “Removed by Reddit’s filters” appears. | Reddit’s own spam or reputation systems caught it. | Ask the moderators whether they can see the reason. |
| Posts and comments are hidden across many unrelated communities. | A shadowban or wider site action may be involved. | View the profile while logged out and check Reddit’s appeal page. |

Real users can be caught by CQS filters. A Low score is not the same as a Reddit ban. The account can still browse, vote, and participate in communities that accept its current level.

### Following, chats, and DMs

If Reddit blocks you after following many accounts quickly, that is more likely to be a temporary rate limit. Stop and give it time to clear. Chat and DM limits on new or low-trust accounts can be linked to Reddit’s wider trust controls.

### What to do after a removal

**Do:**

- Read the removal reason.
- Ask moderators calmly what triggered the filter.
- Keep contributing in communities that accept the account.
- Change the content before trying it somewhere else.

**Do not:**

- Repost the same material across several communities.
- Keep submitting after repeated removals.
- Mass-delete the account’s history.
- Argue with moderators or send repeated messages.

A removal is already a negative outcome. A burst of repeats, deletions, and complaints can make the pattern look worse.

## What raises and lowers CQS

Reddit does not reveal the exact weight of each signal. Still, some patterns appear often enough across accounts to guide sensible action.

### Security and verification

Start with the basics:

- Verify the email address.
- Add phone verification where appropriate and available.
- Use a strong, unique password.
- Turn on two-factor authentication.

Verification can help an unverified account move away from the bottom, but it is only the foundation. Two-factor authentication makes the account safer, yet it may not cause a large tier change by itself. No single setting is an instant fix.

### Account history and moderation outcomes

Removals, reports, subreddit bans, site-wide action, and repeated heavy downvotes can work against an account. A recent ban can have a strong effect.

CQS is not trying to decide whether an opinion is good or bad on its own. The result matters: Did the activity stay up? Was it reported? Did moderators remove it? Did it keep drawing negative replies and votes?

A clean history is built from activity that communities accept.

### VPNs, networks, and location changes

Network signals are easy to overlook. Public or rotating VPNs, shared IP addresses with a history of abuse, sudden location changes, and many accounts using the same setup can all appear risky.

If the score seems stuck, turn off the VPN and use a stable home or mobile connection. Keep the setup steady, allow time for Reddit to update the score, and then check again. Treat this as a test, not a promised cure.

### Comments, posts, and upvotes

Useful comments on other people’s discussions are usually the safest way to build trust. They show that the account can join a community without needing to promote or lead every conversation.

In practice:

- Original comments that receive positive replies and votes are more useful than raw posting volume.
- Votes the account gives do not directly raise its CQS.
- Fast, repeated, or mechanical voting can look automated.
- One well-received post is better than a burst of weak posts.
- Judge engagement in context. A small response can be healthy in a small community.
- Spread natural activity across several relevant communities.
- Do not depend on one subreddit for the account’s whole history.

This does not mean posting everywhere. A handful of suitable communities is enough.

### Quiet triggers to watch

Young accounts can run into trouble before posting much. An aggressive profile or repeated promotional pattern may send the wrong signal.

| Risky pattern | Safer choice |
|---|---|
| Adding a sales link and decorative profile elements at once | Keep the profile plain until the account has normal activity |
| Marking a young profile NSFW without a clear need | Use the setting only when the content calls for it |
| Deleting posts and comments soon after publishing | Leave normal activity in place unless there is a real reason to remove it |
| Crossposting the same material repeatedly | Write for each community and space submissions apart |
| Linking to the same outside domain again and again | Build useful, link-free participation before sharing outside pages |

### Direct messages

Natural DMs that grow from a public discussion fit normal Reddit use. Cold, repeated, automated, or high-volume messages do not. Outreach at scale can push a new or weak account toward the bottom very quickly.

### Alternate accounts

Alternate accounts are not harmful by default. Many people use separate accounts for separate interests. Ban evasion is different and can lead to further action.

For account managers, the risk grows when many accounts share the same IP address, device, browser setup, and repeated actions in a way that resembles coordinated automation.

## How to raise CQS from Low to High

The quickest sustainable path is not a flood of posts. It is a stable setup followed by useful, well-received activity.

### REDAccs CQS Checklist: How to Increase Reddit CQS Fast

#### 1. Stabilise the setup

- Complete suitable email, phone, and security checks.
- Use a plain profile without an early sales link.
- Remove promotional elements that serve no current purpose.
- Use a stable home or mobile connection.
- Browse normally before raising activity.
- Stop any repeated submissions, mass deletions, or automated actions.

#### 2. Build through comments

- Write useful, original comments on other people’s posts.
- Take part in several relevant, mid-sized communities.
- Keep a modest schedule you can maintain.
- Respond to the topic rather than forcing a link or promotion.
- Avoid copy-and-paste replies, sudden bursts, and automation.
- Leave accepted comments in place.

#### 3. Introduce posts slowly

- Begin posting after the account has some accepted comment history.
- Space posts apart.
- Write each post for its community.
- Keep contributing more useful comments than promotional material.
- Check the tier again after a real period of steady activity.

There is no guaranteed number of comments or posts. Quality, reception, and consistency matter more than hitting a target.

### Choose communities with care

Use a manageable group of mid-sized communities rather than dozens of unrelated subreddits or one very strict community. General discussion, question-based, and newcomer-friendly communities often have lower barriers.

Commenting first is safer because it lets the account join existing discussions before asking a community to accept a new post.

### Replying on your own posts

Replying to people who comment on your post is normal and useful. However, these replies usually add less trust than independent comments made on other people’s discussions.

### How long does CQS recovery take?

These are common time ranges, not deadlines. A clean account may move faster or slower.

| Goal | Typical expectation |
|---|---|
| Improve the starting floor through verification | Same day to a few days |
| Move from Low to Moderate | Several days of genuine activity |
| Move from Moderate to High | Around one or two weeks of steady activity |
| Keep a High tier | Continued stable use |
| Reach Highest | Often months of clean history |

Trying to squeeze weeks of activity into one afternoon does not speed up trust. It can create a burst that looks unnatural. Fresh removals or bans can also reverse progress.

### Why a verified or high-karma account can stay Low

| Possible cause | Sensible response |
|---|---|
| A recent subreddit ban | Stop activity in that community and build a clean record elsewhere |
| Heavily downvoted or reported comments | Change the style or topics causing repeated negative reactions |
| An old but mostly inactive account | Build current activity instead of relying on account age |
| VPN or network instability | Use one stable home or mobile connection and test again later |
| An early commercial link or needless NSFW setting | Simplify the profile while trust develops |
| A recent wave of deletions | Stop cleaning the history in bulk and leave normal activity in place |
| Nearly all activity is in one subreddit | Join a few other relevant communities naturally |

Account age does not create trust on its own. A six-year-old account with little activity can still appear unknown. The good news is that CQS is recoverable because Reddit keeps recalculating it.

## CQS for accounts used to promote

A promotional account can fall into a bad cycle. It begins below a community’s threshold, its post is removed before it can earn real engagement, and that removal adds another poor outcome to its history.

The better model is to maintain a smaller number of credible accounts instead of creating disposable accounts for every campaign. Genuine participation should continue before, between, and after promotional posts.

If you manage several accounts, check each one separately. Keep a dated record of its tier and learn how your target communities respond to known tiers. Do not assume that two accounts with similar age and karma have the same CQS.

### Can you buy CQS?

No. CQS itself is not a product anyone can sell or guarantee. Reddit assigns the score based on the account’s history, setup, network signals, security, and ongoing behaviour.

What you can buy is a stronger starting point. An aged, verified account with real activity history does not face all the same first-day barriers as a blank profile. It still needs a clean setup and sensible use, and its current or future tier cannot be promised.

Our listings show details such as age, post karma, comment karma, and activity history. We do not advertise a guaranteed CQS tier.

## Your next steps

Check the tier first. Then stabilise the account’s security, profile, and connection. Build through useful comments before increasing posts, and avoid bursts or repeated removals. After a period of steady activity, check the tier again and adjust based on the result.
