Result messages

Shadowbanned: {{USERNAME}} appears to be shadowbanned. The account may still work for its owner, but its public profile or activity is hidden from other people.

Suspended: {{USERNAME}} is suspended. Reddit identifies the account as suspended, which is different from a silent shadowban.

Not found: {{USERNAME}} was not found. Check the spelling because the account may be deleted, unavailable or may never have existed.

Visible: {{USERNAME}} is visible. Its public profile loads normally, though individual posts or comments may still be filtered or removed.

Result summary: We checked {{TOTAL}} usernames. {{LIVE_TOTAL}} are live and {{POTENTIALLY_SHADOWBANNED_TOTAL}} may be shadowbanned or otherwise unavailable.

Check time: Checked on {{CHECK_DATE}} at {{CHECK_TIME}}.

Form messages:

  • Enter at least one Reddit username.
  • You can check no more than five usernames at once.
  • Complete the Cloudflare check before continuing.

What each result means

  • Shadowbanned: The owner can still use the account, but other people cannot normally see its public profile or activity.
  • Suspended: Reddit shows that the account is suspended. This is a clear restriction rather than a silent shadowban.
  • Not found: The username may be wrong, deleted or nonexistent. Check the spelling before drawing a conclusion.
  • Visible: The profile loads normally. Missing posts are more likely being filtered or removed at the post or subreddit level.

Check an account you do not own

You do not need access to the account. We check what a logged-out visitor can see, so you can test an account you bought, may buy or sell, moderate, or can no longer find. You can check up to five usernames at once.

Our checker reads Reddit’s public response for each profile. It does not post, log in to the account or ask for a token. A profile check cannot explain why an account is unavailable or confirm that every post and comment is visible in every subreddit.

What a Reddit shadowban is, and what it isn’t

A shadowbanned account can appear normal to its owner. They may still log in, post and comment, while other people cannot see the profile or activity. It is a sitewide action linked to Reddit’s administrators or anti-spam systems. Subreddit moderators cannot apply it, and the owner may receive no clear notice.

What a shadowban looks like

Posts may vanish from feeds. Comments may receive no replies. New activity can seem invisible.

Silence alone proves little. A normal post may simply get no attention. A stronger sign is a profile that works for its owner but disappears when viewed while logged out. Use the checker, then confirm the result manually before deciding what to do.

Subreddit moderators can restore content or review a community ban. They cannot lift a sitewide shadowban.

Visible account, invisible posts

A visible profile does not mean every post is visible. AutoModerator may hold content for review. A subreddit may require a certain account age or karma level. Reddit’s spam filter or a human moderator may also remove a post.

Open the post while logged out. If the profile loads but that post does not, check the community rules and contact its moderators if needed.

Confirm it yourself: three manual checks

1. Open the profile while logged out

Open reddit.com/user/USERNAME in a private browser window. A normal profile supports a visible result. A suspension message confirms a suspension. A missing profile may mean a shadowban, deletion, wrong spelling or a username that does not exist.

2. Check Reddit’s appeal page

Log in to the affected account and visit reddit.com/appeals. If Reddit allows an appeal, the account has an appealable restriction. This is the closest official status check Reddit provides and the right place to ask for a review.

3. Use the r/ShadowBan bot

If you control the account, create a check post in r/ShadowBan. Its bot can inspect the account and report signs of a shadowban or removed content. This method cannot help when you do not control the account.

What about a “partial shadowban”?

People often use this phrase when their profile remains visible but new posts disappear. Post-level spam filters and subreddit rules can create this effect. Compare the public profile with each missing post instead of relying on one signal.

Shadowbanned? What to do next

Send a calm appeal

Log in to the affected account and use Reddit’s appeal form. Keep your message short. If you know what may have caused the problem, explain it honestly. If you believe it was a mistake, say so clearly and ask for a review.

Real users can be caught by automated systems, including through shared or previously abused technical signals. Still, only Reddit can review and lift a sitewide shadowban. Subreddit moderators cannot do it.

Avoid angry, repeated or frantic messages. One clear appeal is easier to review than a stream of arguments.

How long does a shadowban last?

There is no dependable expiry date. An account may remain shadowbanned unless Reddit approves an appeal. A reply can take time, and Reddit may not reply at all. Any exact recovery date would be a guess.

Can the account recover?

Yes, recovery is possible. An account with real history and a clear false-positive explanation may have a stronger case, but no outcome is guaranteed.

Decide how long you can wait. If the account supports work or a live campaign, make a backup plan while the appeal is pending.

Starting over

Do not create accounts to dodge an active ban. Reddit can connect accounts through devices, sessions, connections and patterns of use. Trying to hide that link can make the problem worse.

If you are allowed to keep using Reddit but cannot wait for a new account to build normal history, an established Reddit account may be a practical option. We run our accounts through this checker before delivery, and you can repeat the check yourself. No account is immune from future enforcement.

What happens to alternate accounts?

Enforcement often begins with one account, but related accounts can also be affected. Reddit may connect them through shared devices, sessions, connections or behavior. Check every username on its own rather than assuming all accounts have the same status.

Why Reddit shadowbans accounts, and how to lower the risk

Reddit does not publish its full detection rules. Still, these patterns are often linked with higher risk:

  • Low-trust, shared, changing or previously abused connections
  • Several accounts producing related activity from one environment
  • New or empty accounts posting too much, too soon
  • Early post or comment removals
  • Repeated links or promotion of one domain
  • Sudden bursts of activity
  • Posting links without joining discussions
  • Deleting and reposting the same material

These are common signals, not a confirmed formula. Natural account history looks very different from sudden, repeated promotion.

Lower the risk

  • Verify your Reddit account.
  • Read and follow each community’s rules.
  • Join discussions before promoting anything.
  • Write useful comments instead of only sharing links.
  • Avoid duplicated links and repeated posts.
  • Do not act like an automated or coordinated spam system.
  • Check your profile visibility from time to time.

About this checker

Our free checker reads publicly available Reddit account signals. It does not need your Reddit login, password, token or email. We use the same public profile check when assessing accounts before delivery, and you can use it to verify the result yourself.

Run another shadowban check or view established Reddit accounts if your current account cannot be recovered in time.
